Livelihood & Women Economic Empowerment

When livelihood of a people is threatened, their peace is threatened as well. Sustainable livelihood is the main enabler to good relationship among people, a pillar of peace and integral human development. CSI-Kenya promotes livelihood at household level by empowering a traditional woman to earn a living in a more convenient, efficient and decent manner.

Beading for example is done by women mainly for cultural purposes and can also be done for economic reasons. Women can also engage in small-scale enterprises beginning at village level and slowly gaining access to County Markets. The women can also engage in boma banking (in small village groups) and later make deposits in a bank of their choice. With such arrangements where traditional women become more organised they can form self help groups and can be able to access funds earmarked for them either by County or National Government, such as, the Women Enterprise Fund. Currently, such fund is available for women groups but is mainly accessed by women in urban centers. Through this program CSI-Kenya seeks to mobilize women in the targeted rural areas with a view to enhance their economic growth for sustainable livelihood at household level.
